Students that pass the AP exam are frequently recognized by colleges for their achievements. The AP exam is a terrific way for students to obtain college credit while still in high school, despite its difficulty.
AP Computer Science is an advanced placement course in computer science. Students learn a subset of the Java programming language as part of a course that introduces them to computer science concepts and techniques. Students participating in the course through their educational institutions or CollegeBoard will learn how to:
- Create a program, build the algorithms it requires, then write the code to put it all together.
- Errors in software code should be tested and corrected.
- Document and explain how the program code works in a clear and concise manner.

Computer Science A had a pass percentage of 70.4 percent in 2020, while Computer Science Principles had a pass rate of 71.6 percent. While the pass percentage is high in comparison to other AP examinations, the test is considered one of the more demanding, with fewer students taking it over other exams that are considered simpler. Only 25.6 percent and 10.9 percent of students obtain a perfect score of 5 in Computer Science A and Computer Science Principles, respectively.
